The Healthy Challenge is well underway and I am just not feeling that big splurge of energy that I felt around this time last year. I am wondering if it is because unlike last year I am working outside the home and with everyone schedule being crazy my sleep has been disrupted. That could be the reason and it could be that it has only been a few days and I am caffeine sluggish. I have been without coffee and caffeine before and it has made me feel this way, but this feel slightly different…..I could be overthinking it a bit.
Anyway, today’s meal choice is very slim pickings. This booklet that is shown here has a breakdown of scripture that we are to read and memorize, thoughts to pray about and a corporate scripture reading that we are to pray over us during the 21 days and that scripture comes from Ephesians 1:17-23 and it reads:
Ephesians 1:17-23 New International Version (NIV)
17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
I pray that you take from this prayer the words that you need for your life. In this scripture text is one of my favorite passages that reads “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened” that is so important when it comes to so many things in life, but for the purpose of today I am going to relate it to this challenge. See, when we have to deny our flesh some things we begin to crave outwardly what we have been feeding ourselves inwardly and our bodies begin to respond to the lack of those things. It can be headaches from a lack of caffeine or tiredness from a lack of sweets and pasteurized and processed foods. It can the lack of snacking from eating chips or cookies while we work, watch t.v. or read. All of these things are outward manifestations of inward cravings because we are denying our flesh. We begin to feel like we are so hungry for the things that we once had and our bodies respond in kind. Isn’t it funny how when we take away from our bodies the things that mean our bodies no good we begin to discover our bodies has become dependent on those things and “act out” because we have removed them?
For our meal selections for today we are asked to eat the following:
Breakfast: Apple, sharp cheese, 5 crackers
Lunch:1 boiled egg
Dinner: 1 c tuna, chicken, turkey, 1 c veg, fruit, water, tea |
Breaking the Spirit of Poverty and Releasing God’s Favor for Blessings |
Verse of the day: Ps. 55:22 – “Cast thy burdens upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
For me these meal options are difficult in that I am allergic to cheese, salt, melons of any kind and I don’t eat pork. (Just to weirdly insert my allergens in there, I forgot that I am allergic to Benadryl…smh) So for me the only thing I could have eaten today was an apple which I did for breakfast. For lunch we are asked to eat one boiled egg and for me that is like nothing seeing that I am out all day and I am hungry, my appetite desires more than just one boiled egg. Then I am so silly I am like how am I going to boil an egg at work and I don’t like them cold so I had oatmeal.
Our appetites for the things we don’t need manifest more when we strip them away. The same is true for more than just foods, we have the wrong appetites for television shows, movies, news reports of slander and gossip that tear down others and not build them up, we have appetites for the wrong relationships and an unhealthy viewpoint of what it means to be righteous, healthy and good.
When our appetites for the wrong things go unchecked for too long we tend to search out ways to appease our ever irritated flesh and we end up in danger. There is a hungry beast waiting on the other side of that craving for what is not good for us. There is a destiny destroyer waiting and lurking with us in it’s sights, ready for the right opportunity to pounce on us and take away from us all the joy, all the peace, all the kindness that we have on the inside of us and produce instead within us the ability to feel less than.
We end up feeling depleted when we give in to our appetites for things that are not seemingly for us. This toxic living takes us from a place of peace to a place of anxiety and worry. We end up questioning ourselves and doubting our ability and it all came because of denying our flesh and accepting the withdrawal phases of the things we are removing we give in and succumb to its demise. Our appetites can be both a blessing a curse. We are the ones who need to steer the wheel of our appetites and not allow our appetites to drive us.
